PRODUCTCON NEW YORK

🇺🇸 Location: New York, US
📆 Dates: September 10, 2020
💵 Tickets: $0 - $1200
👥 Participants: 20000+
🗣 Speakers: 50+

ProductCon is the largest product management conference series in the world.

Why ProductCon New York? 🤔

Once upon a time, a great product was born. Its creators were so smart that they knew a lot about new trends in AI, VR, IoT and Blockchain. That story may be about you and your business.

This event is fully product-building-oriented. The organizers invited speakers from Spotify, Google, Pepsico, Walmart, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Priceline, and others.

📔 If you ever have taken a yellow book with the brain drawn on the cover, probably you were reading "Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products" by Nir Eyal. Well, at the conference he will be speaking about the aspects of controlling attention and choosing life.

🎵 Even if you are Apple Music fan, you might be interesting in what makes Spotify so special. Morgan Brown, Product Manager at Spotify, will tell you about the primary artifact of product brief.

🍭That’s not all, more sweeties find by clicking the link below.

This is a mad world or the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

This year the PHP Central Europe Conference won’t happen. It was canceled. The thing is, the Internet foamed with hatred. The organizers of the conference were blamed in diversity discrimination. It turns out that only white men were announced as speakers. And no women.

(No jokes! 🤯)

The organizers noted that anyone could apply for a speech, and only one woman filed an application with the same lecture that she had given last year.

Internet warriors were not at a loss. They said that organizers MUST persuade women and representatives of different ethnic groups to join the conference and speak.

Like, “Hey, we have not enough women in the list, please, join”

🗣Some quotes:

"In portraying a wholly male speaker line-up, the organizers indicate that this conference is for men, even if that was not their intent. Many potential attendees, particularly those from minority groups, will look at that line-up and conclude that the conference is not for them. They aren’t just looking at the talk content; they are looking for role models, people like them, people to inspire them… and they don’t see that in a male-dominated line-up. And any technical conference such as PHPCE is much more than simply a sharing of technical ideas. It is an event for socializing, and for networking. And those potential ticket-buying attendees from minority groups will be dissuaded from buying tickets if they believe that the event is simply a gathering of men."

"This is a bad take. it's on you the conference to make sure that you are reaching out to diverse speakers. I probably wouldn't feel comfortable speaking at your event given these responses FWIW."

"Following on from Larry’s withdrawal I had a further email exchange with the organizers, during which they offered to accept that one additional proposal that they had received from a woman. It’s somebody that I know, that I have heard speak before, and I know her to be a very confident and capable speaker with good technical knowledge to share. But that then puts a lot of pressure on the woman, knowingly being invited to speak after an all-male speaker list has already been announced, making her a “token” to diversity, and that isn’t a good thing either."

Please, confirm humanity.

ODSC INDIA 2019

What kind of reality is it?

🐎The first week of August moved on. It’s marked by one of the biggest specialized data science events. It’s called ODSC India, which was mostly about AI and ML. It is what to expect, what is ordained from the future of 2020.

💻Jared Lander, Chief Data Scientist at Lander Analytics, talked about key concepts of ML and AI, avoiding buzzwords and technical terms. Instead, he emphasized more on how good code should look like. Speaking about the code, by the way, there were Python-dedicated workshops. With machine learning engineers participants practiced Time series analysis and forecasting using XGBoost.

🤖During case study discussion, Yash Deo, Consultant (AI and ML) at PwC, shared how he sussed out AI as an important step to generate actionable insights from open source data.

🔮Yash Deo also noted that it’s possible to predict the occurrence of certain events (eg. Riot's) based on information gathered from various Open Sources. What is more interesting is that now police and government are able to identify and predict potential suspicious accounts (Security use Case). Should it help to shorten a number of terrorist attacks? Time will show.

The conference is over. Anyway you can still make a few clicks on the agenda to get the links to some great presentations.

London is the capital of Great Tech

Last week London was hit by tech in all of its forms. There was a 2-day festival full of sources for innovation. Its name Unbound London.

🙌 The lucky ones — let’s say those who attended the event — now can talk about the investments in bitcoins. And that will be something more than just glare of rhetoric.

⚖️ During the Innovation in finance panel, there was a discussion about banks which are balancing between regulation and innovation with regards to enhancing the customer experience.

🔐 Researchers recently discovered a fact that the global cost of cybercrime is $600 billion annually. Raj Samani, McAfee Chief Scientist at McAfee, told about the accurate ways of protection for achieving cybersecurity.

♀ 4 women's health products — wearable breast pump for mothers and Trainer app — raised $42M in funding. It won’t be true to say it was easy. They needed to break through the rooted stereotypes in healthcare for that. Tania Boler, Founder & CEO at Elvie, shared innovative solutions they used to get that pretty sum of money.

🗣️ Ben Hookway, CEO at Relative Insight believes that a large amount of language data goes unused. So he showed how the understanding of language techniques influence consumers. Well...language still has power. And Ben proved that it helps businesses earn money.

Don’t worry if you missed techy event this year. It will be happening again next year.

Words over the silence

Copywriting Conference is a 1-day conference for everyone who loves, works, and deals with words.

Why Copywriting Conference? 🤔

🤯 If you know how writing blows mind sometimes and make eyes roll, this event is for you. If not, this event will help you understand why writing (good writing) is hard.

Sometimes inner voice keeps silence. Sometimes there is nothing but a white page. Anyway, words still matter.

🧠 There is an interesting field in linguistics which is called psycholinguistics. This study learns the interaction of human brain and language (and how to influence mind too). Richard Shotton, the author of The Choice Factory, learned 25 behavioral biases that influence the way people buy.

💕 From dating to the sport. Ben Dudley has experience in UX copywriting for Bumble and Adidas. Ben will share how he helped find love for users and how he’s now helping them to find a pair of cool sneakers.

🖍️ Rachel McConnel is a digital copywriter. She will be talking about such a new approach as content design — there is a huge difference between marketing and product copy. Therefore, it’s good to think of content as a project that should have an idea & tone of voice in pure harmony.

🙋 Glenn Fisher will remind words-creators about a forgotten technique — direct response. If to learn it thoroughly, it’ll become easier to touch the hearts and souls of your audience. Even more, the messaging of a company will be more than good, just out of the masses.

That green robot...

Droidcon is a 3-day Android developer event.

Why Droidcon? 🤔

That’s all about Android, from its inner world to its external processes.

🔮Traditionally, business needs predictions. Hardly ever it’s possible to say something with almost 100% probability, but still…There are enough data and information to figure out what the landscape will look like for developers in the next few years. So if you also see that potential cold war brewing between PWAs and Native apps, visit the “What Will We Be Developing in 5 Years” panel to make things clear.

👨‍💻How about to write your first Flutter application? Salih Guler who’s Android Engineer at Onefootball is making his own workshop to help you make Flutter application and explore all the features that Flutter offers.

⚖️ A quite interesting session from lawyers: Hans-Christian and Woger Felix Hilgert will be analyzing GDPR cases which lead to fines by data protection authorities. Also, they will raise a point about mobile payments and in-app purchases for you to not get into legal troubles. As the saying goes, “Better be safe than sorry”.

🐎Erik Hellman who calls himself a “mistake driven developer” will help you build good relationships with the WebView on Android. You’ll learn loading content, injecting your own CSS or JavaScript in a proper way.

Well, this list can be longer. But it’s Sunday and nobody wants to scroll too much. Click on the link below to find more about workshops, lectures, and panels...colored in the color of the green robot 💚

So the world is talking about Apple WWDC 2019...

On Monday Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

In a few words:

• Apple iOS 13: Dark Mode, New Siri voice, a few of camera and map tools
• Sign in with Apple feature
• iPad gets its own iOS
• New graphics cards

In dozens of words:

💫 iOS 13 delivers new features that are meant to ease your daily routine and make your screen look more beautiful. They are dramatic Dark Mode, new photos tools and a swipe-able keyboard, as well as new Maps tools. Also, they added privacy and security features.

🗣 Say “Siri!” and get surprised to hear a new smooth voice. By the way, Siri is taught to read your messages.

🐯Probably, it was made for fun, but now you can customize your Memoji avatars (so epic!)

📲 Wait for a message on your screen. Very soon you’ll see a notification that new update is available and is ready to be installed. If you want to be the first and cannot stand it any longer, iOS 13 developer beta is available.

📺 Apple gave iPad its own iOS. As CNET commented “iPadOS -- a dedicated operating system for the iPad that brings a host of new capabilities to its tablet.” You can work with multiple apps and files at once, keeping them all in Slide Over (well, let all your tabs be open too).

👮Highly protected. Tim Cook said that privacy is a "fundamental human right." Therefore, Apple introduced Sign In with Apple feature which authentication mechanism is similar to rivals Facebook and Google.

🔅AMD unexpectedly introduced two new AMD Radeon Pro Vega II and AMD Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics cards. The new products have a significant amount of video memory, high graphics performance and the ability to simultaneously connect to eight 4K monitors.

Manage teams, create a product people love

World Product Summit is a 1-day summit for product leaders.

Why World Product Summit 🤔

When one of the products succeed, tech journalists won’t miss the opportunity to write a story. They will add shocking numbers, metaphors and superlative forms of adjectives to make the text sounds like something wow-sensational. But what happens in reality?

The truth is, it’s highly unlikely that you find true stories about the number of declines from App Store and Google Play somewhere on the web. Hardly ever you’ll read about features that never go out into the world.

✨That’s what this summit is about -- it’s where PMs share the stories behind the scenes, from pains to big times.

💪 Scott Eblen, Director of Product Management at Twitter, wants to shed a bit more light on what skills are crucial for every product manager to have.

🤖 Machine Learning is still a superpower and Anna Buldakova will tell her 5 lessons learned while being a Product Manager at Facebook.

👐 Empathy is on the tip of everyone’s tongue. People want to feel the feelings and get a better understanding of other people. The same happens with products. Satya Singh, Senior Product Manager at Hotels.com, will talk about formula he uses while managing the product: Attention + Empathy = Emotional Connection.
