Ok. Couldn't find such an expression in English, so here goes some reading material
In Russian there is a phrase 'оскорблённая гордость'
= 'insulted pride'. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a set expression, nevertheless, it is used in a mocking manner to refer to someone whose pride was insulted. But not really, in fact it means that the person thought of themselves as if they could do anything and suddenly they found out someone thinks otherwise. So they act funny or make a very vivid expression on their face that conveys the message of their heart saying "What do you mean I'm no good for the job? I'm the best damn person to do that kind of thing!" This could be described as the 'insulted pride'.
Naturally, I believe this capture from "Leon: The Professional" is the most iconic 'insulted pride
' in the history of cinema.
p.s. if you have any better examples from the cinema fitting this word-combination, share them with me and when I get enough I'll post them here. 🌱
