Chen Rong:
The Future of the Elephant Wallet
Rong Chen, 5/1/2020
I personally believe that Elaphant.app, instead of Elephant Wallet, is the way to go next. The former should be a community development, and the latter is an EF sponsored effort.
Currently there are three wallets, ELA Wallet, Elephant Wallet, elastOS Wallet, that are going in parallel, all of which compete for resources. Going forward, EF will only focus on the elastOS wallet as a reference design, while maintaining the other two for bug fixes and minor user experience improvements.
In retrospect, I am very proud with the achievements of both ELA Wallet and Elephant Wallet teams. One reached its goal of building a decentralized wallet foundation going forward. And the other earned it’s popularity among our community members.
The elastOS wallet will use ELA wallet components as its underlying native building blocks, and unify its UI to comply with elastOS app as a whole. The main reason for this is due to the fact that ELA wallet is decentralized, and Elephant wallet is NOT.
The Elephant wallet was set out to solve performance issues and user experience issues, both were tumbling blocks for blockchain projects. We have learned invaluable lessons in both areas.
In the recent team AMA, we have pointed out that EF will transition itself to a W3C like standard oriented organization after the CRC election. I also wrote a short essay about building (Guild) sidechains as Elastos Services (the forth pillar) after we get the main Smartweb platform going autonomously.
I would very much like to see that the current Elephant website turning into an instant payment guild sidechain, and the Elaphant server being one of the supernodes. I would also be happy to see the mini apps in the Elephant wallet becoming micro websites (Elastos Feeds) inside both the elastOS app and the Elaphant app. Both H5 and Ionic mini apps should be standardized as well.
Again, I appreciate our community’s support for helping us building the Elephant wallet. Let’s take a break and catch our breaths at this moment. So we could all have a better vision about DID, Feeds, Messaging, mini apps and Elastos (sidechain) Services.
I sincerely hope that a community team will relaunch the Elaphant.app brand after the CRC election. Thanks!
